Is oral tranexamic acid at 500mg good for skin lightening and how long does it take to show results?

I’m considering taking oral tranexamic acid at 500 mg for skin lightening and would like to understand whether this is an effective and safe option. Is 500 mg an appropriate dose for treating hyperpigmentation, melasma, or uneven skin tone? How does oral tranexamic acid actually work to reduce pigmentation?

How long does it typically take to start seeing visible results, and what kind of improvement can realistically be expected? Are results gradual, and do they plateau after a certain period? If I stop taking it, will the pigmentation return?

Additionally, what are the potential side effects or risks associated with oral tranexamic acid, especially regarding blood clot risk? Who should avoid taking it? Is it more effective than topical tranexamic acid, chemical peels, or laser treatments?

If the goal is to safely lighten pigmentation and achieve a more even skin tone, what would be the safest and most effective treatment plan, and should oral tranexamic acid only be used under medical supervision?
