The scope of topics to watch has broadened massively over the years as more and more creators started making videos
While videos used to get a large push based on channel momentum and having an established viewer/subscriber base, things have now gotten to a point where each video acts like a standalone video where past success now means nothing as a title that isn't catchy enough can flop completely if it doesn't hit a certain metrics threshold
In the past it was a case where videos could still get pushed if they all had the same title but were just a different episode number within the series
That feels impossible now, all videos have to feel like they are unique and standalone, enough to draw in new viewers if 99% of the impressions it receives are displayed to people who have never seen your content before.
With the scope of video topics broadening massively as each video has to feel like something new for it to get impressions, the amount of semi intriguing titles you see when scrolling may be way more than a few years ago, but the actual delivery of quality content is lower than it used to be
This is because there is now a mismatch between intriguing titles/topics and quality content because intriguing titles became mandatory for a video to have a chance at being seen, thus every shit creator just figured out how to use them, while quality is now far less measurable thus less able to be promoted.
While scrolling on my homefeed I could see 5 videos I have an urge to click on because the title/topic is intriguing, yet the chance of even one of them being good is lower than it's ever been because it will just be some unoriginal guy rambling with his useless non insightful takes.
This is the first time I feel like youtube can no longer provide me entertainment or much in the way of education/insight which could actually be a blessing if I can use this to reduce my time spent watching videos
I am actually working on scripts for a new channel I'm going to make which will talk about life and may turn out to be a gem of a channel
Even when I watch back on videos I made a year ago, I think about how I'm delivering insight after insight and get dopamine from my own takes despite being the one who made the video
Whereas I click on someone else's video on youtube that I'm excited to watch due to the topic and title and 10 minutes in the guy has rambled but said absolutely nothing of value
I've spent so much time posting threads to this site (this one included) for no tangible gain aside from exercising my mind and making my thoughts concrete, but going forward, my thoughts will be expressed in video format for my own benefit and profit
